One of the objectives of the game and its plot of double perspective is used specifically to describe different points of view of the conflict. "We're a story about modern warfare in the real world," says Jacob Minkoff, director of Modern Warfare player design. "If we bleach it, if we go back, we show a world where the heroes fight against the terrorists and win, you never see the impact on the average person, the collateral damage or the morally gray situations that the soldiers face."

The change seems to point to recovering some of the strength and, at times, the controversial appeal of the original Modern Warfare franchise, which mixed the theater of action movies with more politically conscious arguments. This combination of contemporary storytelling and incredible realism can make some experiences truly tense and uncomfortable. Last week, at Infinity Ward, I was able to experience two scenes of the game in a hands-free demo, and both were anguished. In the first, after a terrorist attack on Piccadilly Circus, a group of soldiers ran through the attackers to a small house in central London. What followed was a methodical murder. Well-armed soldiers move through every room and floor, firing at normal-looking people in rooms and kitchens. At the end of the scene, the soldiers are looking for evidence on an upper floor, and you can listen to a baby inside the house.

The second scenario was a flashback, which shows the early life of one of the rebellious characters. The set, 20 years ago, takes place in a seemingly small town in the Middle East in the midst of a military attack, while the character controls a girl who follows her older brother in search of safety. Mainly you hide, hiding from soldiers with small hidden spaces, but you can not help. At one point, the brothers work together to kill a certain soldier and it is an absolutely brutal experience, since they use improvised weapons, including a screwdriver, to shoot down their attacker. Of course, the whole game is not going to like this: the developers of Infinity Ward say that there will be many more traditional shooting scenarios, in addition to the typical variety of multiplayer modes.
