Girish Karnad, the great actor and playwright, passed away in Bangalore on Monday morning at Bangalore. The actor succumbed to his illness on the Vittal Mallya Road due to a prolonged illness. Celebrities of various movie industries have turned to Twitter to express their pain.

Girish Karnad debuted in the 1970s with the film Kannada Sanskar. He was also known for his work in Hindi films like Manthan (1976), Pukar (2000), Iqbal (2005), Door (2006, Ek Tha Tiger (2012)) and Tiger Jinda Hai (2017).

Girish Karnad, a famous playwright, had mainly acted in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films of South India. He was known to play negative characters on screen very delicately.

He was last seen in the 2018 film Nenilada Mail in Kannada. His notable works in Tamil include 24, Kadalan, Chillemi.
