The elusive crocodile from Chicago 'Chance the Snapper' finally caught

A crocodile roaming through Chicago's Humboldt Park was captured after a weeklong search, authorities said.

The freshwater predator, nicknamed "Chance the Snapper", had escaped from the wildlife officials in Chicago, who imported a Florida alligator expert, Frank "Alligator Bob" Robb, to search in Windy City.

"The City's main priority has been to keep residents and park visitors safe while facilitating the safe and humane capture of the alligator," Chicago Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Jenny Schlueter said in a statement announcing the arrest. of the caiman.

The eastern side of the lagoon was fenced in by the public on Sunday night as part of the search for "Chance the Snapper," which is believed to be between 4 and 5 feet long.

The public interest in the animal may have "altered" its behavior as it wants with prying eyes.

"It was hidden," said Chicago Animal Care and Control executive director Kelley Grandurski.

Gandurski had promised that Chance would not be destroyed after the capture.

"We want him to move to a permanent home in an appropriate place, not a lagoon in a Chicago park," said Gandurski.
