A new study examining air samples from hospital wards treating patients with corona virus (COVID-19) has found that the virus can live up to 13 feet (four meters) in the air. The preliminary results of the investigation by Chinese researchers were published on Friday in the Emerging Infectious Diseases, a journal of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This research is giving a new direction to the question of how this disease spreads. Scientists have themselves warned that it is not necessary to infect the virus found at such a distance.

Researchers led by a team at the Academy of Military Medical Sciences in Beijing tested ground and air samples from an ICU and a general COVID-19 ward at Huoshansson Hospital in Wuhan. A total of 24 patients were admitted in these wards between 19 February and 2 March.

Aerosol transmission also claimed

In research, he found that there was more virus on the floor of the wards. Research says that 'most of the virus droplets probably fall to the ground due to gravity and wind'. Coronas were also found on the surface like computer mouses, trenches, bed rails and door knobs. In addition, half of the samples from the ICU medical staff shoes were tested positive. The team wrote- 'Therefore, the shoes of the medical staff can also become the career of the virus.'

The team has also claimed an aerosol transmission with it. The virus drops in it are so fine that they do not show up and remain in the air for many hours. This is in stark contrast to cough or sneeze droplets that fall to the ground within seconds.

The team found that the virus-filled aerosols were mainly up and down 13 feet with patients. Research has written that though no member of the hospital was found infected by these droplets floating in the air. This shows that proper precautions can effectively prevent infection. '
