INDIANAPOLIS - A woman was shot dead in the eastern part of the city on Monday afternoon.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and emergency staff were called to a man who was shot shortly before 4 p.m. In the 400 block of Denny Street. It is southeast of East Michigan Street and North Sherman Drive.

The woman later died in a hospital, IMPD said Monday night. IMDD said the woman's name was withheld, while family members' notification was issued. The Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death.

US Postal Inspection Service. The USA and IMPD are investigating the murder and the FBI is helping.

A spokesman for IMPD said he could not confirm that the woman was a postman.

However, the FBI said that the Postal Inspection Service was leading the investigation, as the IMPD said it belonged to a postal worker.

The Postal Inspection Service did not immediately respond to a request for information from News 8, and a local representative of the United States Postal Service said it could not comment.

IMPD did not provide information about a possible suspect or if the shooting was an isolated incident.
