2020 NFL Calendar: Quirky includes Christmas on Friday and a rare game on ABC on Monday nights

The NFL generally does not play with Fridays or Christmas. The NFL avoids programming games in both.

With Christmas coming up on Friday this year, the NFL clearly didn't care.

It was a rare Christmas game for the league, amid questions arising on the NFL's regular season schedule, which launched on Thursday. And on Fridays, that doesn't happen often.

Here are some of the biggest calendar items (and be sure to check out our top 10 — watch the games and review prime-time games on the 2020 NFL calendar):

A Rare Friday Game, A Rare Christmas Game

The Minnesota Vikings will travel to play at the New Orleans Saints on Friday December 25 in Week 16. that's unusual.

According to Pro Football Reference, only 10 NFL games have been played on Fridays since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. In 2009, the Tennessee Titans and San Diego Chargers played in a game on Christmas Friday. The Saints held a game in 1999 against the Dallas Cowboys on Friday, December 24.

The NFL refrains from playing on Friday because it does not want to interfere with the high school game. But there is no one at Christmas. The Vikings-Saints game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm. ET on Fox and NFL Network.

Christmas games are a bit excessive for the NFL, but they are still rare. The league will take most of its games for another day when Christmas arrives on Sunday. As a result, there have been only 21 NFL games over Christmas since the 1970 merger.

If the games work as usual, we can have a full day of NBA games in the middle of the NFL playoffs. Is not bad

MNF "Back to ABC

There will be some old and some new ones with games for Week 2 on Monday nights.

The show at the Las Vegas Raiders is the New Orleans Saints, and will be the first regular season game in Las Vegas.

In addition, the NFL is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first game of "Monday Night Football", as well as an ESPN broadcast on ABC, which was home to "Monday Night Football" from 1970-2005. We hope we get old "MNF" graphics and introductions too.

ABC has not aired a regular season NFL game since its last game in 2005 since Monday night.

Jets, Dolphins get NFL matchup for the first time since 1991

We have seen that on rare occasions, teams play at the end of the regular season and then play again in the opening game of the playoffs. But it is indeed unusual to see teams scheduled for consecutive regular-season games with each other.

The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets will play in Week 10, each receiving a bye, and then playing each other in Week 12. According to NFL Research, teams have not played with the same opponent in consecutive games since SAN. Diego Chargers and Seattle Seahawks in 1991.

Two games in a row at the same stadium.

The San Francisco 49ers will play consecutive games at the same stadium, which would not be unusual if it were Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. But it will happen across the country.

In Week 2, the 49ers play for the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium, then in Week 3 they host the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. It is possible. San Francisco will remain on the East Coast between games. They may not require visitors to remove their equipment from the locker room.

The New England Patriots face the same awkward situation this season. They play on December 6 at the new Sophie Stadium in the Los Angeles Chargers. The Patriots then play four days later Thursday night against the Los Angeles Ram at Sophie Stadium.

NFL vs Presidential Debate

The NFL has also previously moved the game for political reasons. He moved to the traditional inauguration party from Thursday night to Wednesday 2012 to avoid conflict with the Democratic National Convention. Obviously, the presidential debate does not receive the same views.

The politician reported that the NFL will have two games in October such as the scheduled presidential debate.
