New York police are investigating after a video appeared to show the truck from the New York City Police Department passing through the crowd during Saturday's protests.

The 27-second video, which was posted on Twitter, shows a New York police truck in front of a crowd throwing objects at the vehicle. There is a barricade in front of the truck. The truck appears to be driving towards the barricade, chasing the protesters. Then shouts are heard as a person appears jumping on top of the truck. It is not clear whether there were any injuries.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said the incident is under investigation, but stressed that officials may have no choice.

"I am not going to blame the officers who were trying to deal with an absolutely impossible situation. Those who got on that police car did something wrong, and created an unstable situation," he said. "I wish, the officers would have taken a different approach, but let's start at the beginning. The protesters in that video did the wrong thing to surround the police car, period."

The mayor insisted Saturday night that he had spoken to community leaders and that the protesters were deliberately trying to incite violence, including those who have come from New York to other places.

"People who represent communities in our city and residents of our city are not involved in negative and violent protests," De Blasio said.

CNN has reached the NYPD, New York Governor and Attorney General's office for comment. Earlier today, Governor Andrew Cuomo said he ordered the state's attorney general to independently review the events of Friday's protests, including demonstrators clashing with police in Brooklyn and other districts.
