T-Mobile hits from phone call, interruption in text message
T-Mobile causes problems.

Customers report that they cannot make or receive phone calls, although the data appears to be unaffected. Some customers say that text messages are also affected.

The downeductor, which collects reports of outages from users, indicates that a major outage is in progress. It is unclear how widespread the problem is, but as of this writing, T-Mobile was trending across the United States on Twitter.

The blackout appears to have started around 9–10 am. PT on Monday (12–1 pm ET).

In our own tests in New York and Seattle, we found that making calls from T-Mobile phones would almost fail immediately after calling. We also discovered that the cellular service on our phones was intermittent, including repeatedly falling to zero or losing access to high-speed data.

In April, Sprint and T-Mobile completed their merger, valued at $ 26 billion, the third largest operator in the United States after the combined cellular networks AT&T and Verizon.

A T-Mobile spokesperson also did not immediately comment on the cut, but T-Mobile's chief technology officer Neville Ray tweeted:

Other people have reported problems on other networks. When it arrived, a spokesperson for AT&T and Verizon (owner of TechCrunch) said that their networks were functioning normally. Sprint has not yet responded to a request for comment.

There is no evidence that the disruption was caused by the cyber attack. Matthew Prince, CEO of global content delivery network Cloudfare, said in a tweet that the company did not see any jump in Internet traffic during the outage.

An electronic report called Tier 3, a major fiber network backbone that cellular network routes rely on calls and messages, was experiencing an outage, which would have explained the network outage. But CenturyLink spokesperson, which owns Level 3, said there is no current outage on its network.

Extensive disruptions of cellular networks are rare, but they do occur. In 2017, CenturyLink had a network failure that affected all major EE carriers. For the US and 911 emergency services that rely on fiber networks to route calls. In some counties of EE. In the US, officials warned for cell phone users that 911 services were disrupted.

Note that operator-dependent text messages are also affected; With reactions to AT&T and Verizon; With an update from the CEO of T-Mobile; And with a centurylink statement. Neville Ray's position was misquoted in an earlier version of this report.
